Cameras for Girls
Many young women in Uganda face the harsh realities of gender inequality and poverty. Despite their talent and aspirations to become photographers or journalists, societal barriers and a male-dominated field often make their dreams feel unattainable.
The opportunity to own a camera is transformative—it unlocks creativity, independence, and opportunity. With mentorship and training, these young women gain the skills to tell compelling stories and build paths toward meaningful employment.
$10/month – Equips 2 women with support to cover their WIFI data and transportation, ensuring safe travel back and forth to the editing lab and access to essential online training and Zoom sessions to help her learn and expand her skills.
$25/month – Enables 4 women to receive professionally designed LinkedIn profiles, build global networks, and craft polished resumes, empowering them to thrive in the competitive job market.
$50/month – Helps purchase 1 camera (Canon G1x, a camera bag, SD card, extra battery ) kit for 1 woman in our program.
$100/month or $1,200/year – Will pay for a leadership course for 2 women via our partnership with Phenomenal Women Global.
$125/month – Sponsors 1 girl with a camera kit, year-long training, vital data, transportation, and a professionally designed LinkedIn profile, resume, and 6-month mentorship to help her be job-ready by the end of the program.

Brands for Better Foundation
Brands for Better is a volunteer-driven not-for-profit based in Vancouver that is creating opportunities for impact-led brands and individuals to collaborate and take action on local issues to make the city a better place to live.
The organization believes that the biggest and most impactful change is created when brands unite their power, resources, ideas, strategies, experience, and their people. They connect brands and individuals who want to create positive change with opportunities to tackle pressing environmental and social issues in our shared community.
As a member of their Executive Team and Funding Lead, Kim is leveraging her many years of not-for-profit fundraising, grant research & writing, and communications experience to attract new sources of funding to ensure Brands for Better can continue to make an impact locally and look to expand beyond Vancouver.

Treehouse Collective
Launched in May 2022 by Arvorei founder Kim Jacob, the Treehouse Collective brings together freelance translators across the globe who meet on a monthly basis to network and learn with their peers. They grow their businesses, learn new ways to achieve well-being, and combat the isolation and loneliness that often accompany the career of a translator.
The Treehouse Collective is free to join and offers members:
- Monthly business workshops & networking sessions
- Workshops by wellness experts
- WhatsApp group
- Shared resources & meeting recordings on Google Drive
- Opportunity to promote services for translators

I like the Treehouse Collective because it's an open-minded and welcoming online space for linguists. You can exchange ideas, ask for help and give back to like-minded people. And I love the fact that there are fellow linguists from (almost) all over the world, so you get very different perspectives.
There are many translators groups out there, but the essence of the Translator’s Treehouse Collective is unique. Founder Kim Jacob, a community-minded professional, is always searching for ways to promote thoughtful discussion and bring guest speakers to enrich the translators’ experiences.
As a member of the Translator’s Treehouse Collective, I enjoy being part of a relaxed and friendly group of like-minded translators from all over the world when most of us are working freelance, from home. Most significantly, it feels great knowing there are lots of linguists out there who want to use their skills and professional abilities as a force for good and have a positive impact on people and planet.
